In July 2021, the wrestling world was blindsided by the news that WWE had released Bray Wyatt. Known as one of the most creative minds in the industry, many were upset to see Wyatt go.

Much was made of the release in the months following. The former WWE Champion reportedly had a rocky relationship with Vince McMahon prior to his release. Wyatt was reportedly fiercely protective of his character, which McMahon didn't appreciate.

McMahon is now no longer with the WWE due to stories emerging that he covered up sexual assault on more than one occasion. In his place is his son-in-law, Triple H. With this change, an update on Wyatt's chances of returning to the company has come out.

It's Likely

According to a report from Fightful Select, those within WWE's upper management were of the belief they were likely to re-sign Wyatt. Creative pitches for his return were made, signaling a return could at least be possible.

"I can't speak for him, but I know I've heard his name brought up, and I don't know how you couldn't feel better about coming in now if you were him?" someone close to Wyatt told Fightful Select.

The report was then corroborated by PWTorch's Wade Keller. "I can back up Fightful's reporting that Bray is likely back in WWE soon," Keller said on a recent audio show.

Reports of Wyatt's issues with McMahon first began to come out shortly after his release. However, they have picked up steam once again in recent days.

According to the Fightful report, neither Wyatt nor his WrestleMania opponent Randy Orton were happy with the direction of their match. The ending was reportedly changed two days prior to the big event.

The report also states that there was "no true creative endgame" to the storyline between Wyatt, Orton, and Alexa Bliss. This is in spite of the fact that the story lasted six months.

Following Wyatt's release, a narrative was created which stated that Wyatt was difficult to deal with backstage. This narrative reportedly came from people who worked directly with McMahon.

"There were also several other instances of rumors started within that circle to ease the heat off of WWE for releasing him," the Fightful report states.

'They're Not Done'

Wyatt's father, WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda, appeared on the Stories With Brisco And Bradshaw podcast. On the podcast, he shared that he believed both Wyatt and Wyatt's brother Bo Dallas were not done in pro wrestling.

"They're definitely not maybe done. I don't know, they're kind of got their foot in and going with a couple different things, trying to see what's available. So, you know, maybe you'll see them back. Maybe you won't, I don't know yet, but I don't want to speak for them either because I know they're trying to reach out and get some different things going," Rotunda said.

Wyatt's Cryptic Message

Wyatt recently posted a cryptic message about wrestling as a whole to social media. Wyatt, now going by his real name Windham, expressed his feelings about wrestling while making several references to today's current products.

"Wrestling is not a love story, it's a Fairy Tale for masochists. A comedy for people who criticize punchlines. A fantasy most can't understand, a spectacle no one can deny. Lines are blurred. Heroes are villains. Budgets are cut. Business is business...

"In a world surrounded in hate, greed and violence, a world where closure may never come. We all know a place that has hot and cold hope on tap. For better or for worse," Wyatt wrote.
