Khamzat Chimaev continues to be in the spotlight for the wrong reasons unfortunately and most of that is his fault. He missed weight once again over the weekend and it wasn't even close to what he was supposed to be at. Chimaev was seven pounds overweight.

Nurmagomedov Calls Out Chimaev

Khabib Nurmagomedov made some crazy comments about Chimaev and honestly, some of it makes sense.

“If you are a Muslim, you should have good people around you, Muslims who can say: ‘Hey, don’t do this,’” Nurmagomedov said during a recent appearance. “I recently watched the weigh-in of Khamzat Chimaev. I followed what was happening with his weight and looked at his team. There are no Muslims around him and this is very bad. Because if you are a Muslim, you need good, strong people around you. [They] will say: ‘Come back, do this.’ When you become famous and rich, when you gain power and there are no people who will give advice or you do not listen to them, then something will happen. You need good people, even if you don’t like it, you need them.”

Chimaev's Coach Discusses The Issues

Andreas Michael, Chimaev's coach, had a bunch to say about this situation and stood up for his guy.

“His whole career he’s been fighting at welterweight,” Michael said. “He’s missed weight this time, but it’s not as if he’s been missing weight all the time. Of course, he’s been having a hard time making weight, but he’s always made weight. The point of the thing is that we’re going to make it easier and fight at middleweight some of the fights, but we’re game for welterweight as well.

“We’re not going to lose our ranking there, hopefully, because we’re so close to a title fight there. Once we take the belt there, we’re going to pursue the middleweight division with all our hearts. Right now, some fights are going to be at middleweight, some are going to be at middleweight, worthwhile fights. But that’s up to the UFC, of course, that’s not up to us.”

Why Did This Happen?

It's uncertain at the moment why this happened, but it also seemed as if Chimaev went and did this on purpose for whatever reason. He had a big smile on his face and it looked like he was happy about missing weight.

What Happens Now?

Now we have to be worried about if Khamzat is going to make the 170-pound weight limit for the future. He's currently the number 3 ranked welterweight in the world and this would be a tragic loss mess up if he doesn't cut weight.
